Matera’s Youths

Even before starting the construction site for the renovation of the buildings, we decided to open the gate to meet the youths of the area, show the inside of the ruin carved into the rock, and share needs, ideas, desires.

We gave out leaflets in front of the high schools of Matera—Artistic, Classical, Scientific, Magistral, and Musical-Coreutical—to activate the participation process. Some students booked themselves in for meetings thanks to word of mouth, others via social media. Seeing the first participants arrive, one by one, on the dot of the appointed time, as well as hearing their voices fill the space—left in a state of neglect for more than sixty years—marked the start of the work.
